The National Digital Newspaper Program in Ohio (NDNP-OH) is Ohio’s contribution to the Library of Congress’s Chronicling America website, a freely-available, online newspaper resource providing access to:
Between July 2008 and August 2012, NEH grant funding will have allowed the Ohio Historical Society to digitize over 200,000 pages of historical newspapers for Chronicling America. Eventually, the website will contain content from all U.S. states and territories.
Why Isn’t [insert newspaper title here] Available on Chronicling America?
For each two-year grant cycle, each awardee digitizes approximately 100,000 pages of its state’s historic newspapers published between 1836 and 1922. With millions of pages and hundreds of titles to choose from in the Ohio Historical Society’s collections, the National Digital Newspaper Program in Ohio relies on an advisory group to select which newspapers will be digitized.
