Campus Martius Contemporary Gunmakers and Allied Artists Show

Saturday, February 9, 2013
9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Campus Martius Museum, Marietta

Experience 200 years of American gunmaking traditions. Campus Martius Museum will be hosting some of the finest traditional artisans who recreate the working tools of the frontier settler and hunter. Gunsmiths, powder horn and hunting bag makers will be displaying their wares. Flintlock and  percussion rifles and the tools used in making and servicing them will be displayed.

As a special feature of the Contemporary Gunmakers and Allied Artists Show there will be daylong demonstrations in the art of barrel rifling using 18th- and early 19th--century techniques. Rifling, spiral grooves cut inside a rifle barrel, enables a bullet to achieve a spinning motion, therefore gaining better accuracy and distance. Several original rifling machines will be on display and long-lost principals used will be explained by contemporary barrel makers.
